When he ran for leader of the Ontario Liberal Party I listened to the platforms and public announcements of all the candidates who participated and was glad to see a decent man like him running. Both idealistic and realistic, I knew that if he had won that leadership race and ended up as premier, Ontario would have had make several hard corrections away from conservative policies and some corruption. We would have ended up with a healthier environment, a better medical system ( though it would have taken years to fully revamp, and pull away from sneaking in more privatization on the public dime that Ford is now promoting) as well as a more fair justice system, at least as much as law and public attitudes permitted.

George and his crew make a trip from Syracuse to Wolfe Island 90 minutes. Without them, it is about 4 hours. As someone who's taken this ferry for nearly 30 years, Horne's Ferry is an extremely valuable asset to Wolfe Island and the people who live there.

I was stationed at this Light Station in 1967 when Ed Sweet was there as the last Civilian light keeper in the USCG. Bill Sweeney BM1 lived in the second house and I lived in town and rented a room. Fog horns were very loud as were the compressors that supplied the air. Had to climb the tower every 3 or 4 hours to check the voltage to the light also polished the glass lens and brass, Ed was very, very particular. Also had three pendulum clocks to keep in sync for the radio beacon. Was beautiful duty that I probably did not appreciate at the time.
